Total wrought production (rolled products, extrusions and wirerod) in 2007 amounted to 8.7 million tonnes, up 2.4% on 2006. Since 2000 production of wrought products increased on average by 2,9% each year. Total rolled production in Western Europe reached 4.9 million tonnes in 2007, a 3.2% increase compared to 2006. Extruded products production reached 3.4 million tonnes in Western Europe, representing a growth rate of around 3%. The production of wirerod increase with somewhat more than 1% in Europe last year. Europe became a net exporter of wrought products the last 3 to 4 years. More exactly Europe is a net exporter of rolled products of around 250 ktonnes. But Europe is a net importer of extrusions (about 80 ktonnes), although the volumes are smaller than for the rolled products, the import flow is rising. Europe is also an important net importer of wire since years.
