Leonardo project

From 2003 till 2006, the aluMATTER project managed to get a partial financing from the European Commission through the Leonardo da Vinci programme.

During that period, the aluMATTER project developed 6 modular interactive web-based learning courses focussing on aluminium fabrication technologies. The technology-oriented modules cover the transformation of semi-products (rolled, extruded or cast products) into final products e.g. the various fabrication technologies such as forming, machining, joining or surface technologies.

Co-ordinated by the European Aluminium Association (EAA), this Leonardo da Vinci project gathered 20 partners composed of the major European aluminium producers (Hydro, Alcan, Alcoa, Corus), by some national aluminium associations, by 2 important technical and training centres (CETIM, SLV-Duisburg ) and by some renowned university departments in Europe (Cambridge, RWTH -Aachen, etc.).

Compared to the few existing learning materials related to aluminium technologies, aluMATTER clearly innovates thanks to its unique combination of the three essential elements for developing e-learning material: the content relevance and consistency, the high quality programming and the pedagogic soundness. In addition, these six modules are available in 4 languages: English, Dutch, French and German

These  technology-oriented modules complement the already existing modules on aluminium material science.

The target groups are technicians, engineers and designers working in the manufacturing industry as well as students at technical Universities or colleges. These modules are particularly relevant for the numerous European SME's working in the fabrication sector of aluminium products.
